In 1997, I happily put Charles Woodson at the top of my Heisman Trophy ballot.

We can debate whether Michigan was the best team in college football that season, which is wasn't. But there is no question that Michigan defensive back Woodson deserved to carry off the giant trophy, becoming the first defender to take the award.

It was a star-studded class of Heisman finalists, with future Pro Football Hall of Famer Woodson joined by future HOF quarterback Peyton Manning and future HOF receiver Randy Moss.

Now, Woodson is getting every father's dream: his son is going to play for his alma mater. Charles Woodson Jr., a star defensive back in Florida, will join Kyle Whittingham's team in 2027.

Woodson had oodles of options, picking Michigan over offers from Florida State, Mississippi, Oregon, Texas A&N and others.

Would it be too much to hope that Jr. is as good as Dad, who had a brilliant NFL career after finishing up in Ann Arbor. Not bad for a guy from Ohio.
