Dec. 25—***
Indiana is going to need a new guy. Same goes for Illinois, Iowa and Oregon.
Ohio State is in great shape along with Maryland and Southern California and Washington.
What am I referencing? Big Ten schools and their needs at starting quarterback in 2026.
Thanks to Sam Khan Jr. and Antonio Morales Jr. of The Athletic, we can all start to put some names with places,
They came up with projected 2026 starting quarterbacks for every Power Four school. No offense to the folks in the ACC, Big 12 and SEC, but I'm not nearly as interested in them as the 18 teams in the Big Ten. Maybe I will circle back closer to the season for the other leagues.
The Big Ten quarterback power poll for '26 starts with '25 Heisman finalist Julian Sayin at Ohio State. He is special player who is only getting started. With his return and receiver Jeremiah Smith, the Buckeyes will open next season ranked in the Top Five.
Keeping your quarterback is always a good thing. That Luke Altmyer was back going into 2025 fueled College Football Playoff talk for Bret Bielema's team.
After three seasons, Altmyer's next team will be in the NFL. So, Bielema needs a new quarterback. The folks at The Athletic think it will be Harvard transfer Jaden Craig. Well, the team GPA already rock solid, figures to get a boost.
The Athletic writes that Indiana will follow Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza with a player with Heisman credentials, TCU's Josh Hoover. Whoever hired Curt Cignetti needs a raise.
Whenever Michigan hires its next football coach, the first first call should be to Bryce Underwood, who showed flashes during his rookie season.
By the way, when the transfer portal opens on Jan. 2, it is going to be nuts. In a fun way unless you are a coach.
