Canutillo's LJ Martin has career best game as running back for BYU

Canutillo High School graduate LJ Martin had his best game ever for Brigham Young University in a 26-14 road win vs. Cincinnati.
Martin rushed for a career-best 222 yards on 32 carries and scored twice Saturday, Aug. 22, to help the Cougars improve to 10-1 overall and 7- in the Big 12 Conference. He also had 44 yards receiving vs. Cincinnati.
This season, Martin has rushed for 1,134 yards and scored eight touchdowns.
As a freshman at BYU, he rushed for 518 yards, and as a sophomore, he rushed for 718 yards.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Martin is in his third year with the Cougars program after graduating in 2023 from Canutillo HS.
As a senior at Canutillo, he rushed for 2,137 yards and as a junior, he rushed for 2,737 yards. He initially was committed to Stanford University, but after a coaching change at that school, he signed with BYU.
