Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL through the first four weeks of the season. With Young's hot play, the Panthers are 2-2, fresh off a big win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football.
But with the bye week here, it gives Young and the Panthers some time off to rest and relax ahead of the final 13 games of the season.
For Young, he spent part of the bye week going back to Tuscaloosa where he played his college ball at the University of Alabama. The No. 6 Crimson Tide are hosting No. 2 Georgia for a big Saturday night showdown. It's the biggest game on the schedule this weekend in college football and with that, ESPN's College GameDay is on campus.
Young was the special guest picker for the show as he joined Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Pat McAfee, and his former college coach Nick Saban. As Young made his entrance through the stands, he caught up with Jess Sims who asked him what Alabama meant to him.
During his answer, Young was showered with "MVP" chants from the Alabama fans. Young went on to say that Tuscaloosa is 'special' and 'electric' saying he's excited to be back in the environment.
The quarterback praised the people in the program for helping shape him to what he is today in terms of being a quarterback. That praise included Saban, who Young said held him accountable throughout his time at Alabama and how much he was able to learn from him.
Young was committed to USC originally, being from California it made sense. But as his recruitment went on, Alabama was persistent and eventually was able to flip him from the Trojans. It was a big flip for Saban and his staff to get Young to Alabama where he won the Heisman Trophy, becoming the first Crimson Tide quarterback to do so.
The time at Alabama did help Young in terms of being a legit NFL prospect as he went No. 1 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. In his fourth season, we are really seeing what Young can do in terms of being an elite and consistent quarterback in the NFL.
With Young being among the top quarterbacks this season, the Panthers continue to have high hopes for their season and the future is bright at the quarterback position.
