After losing the first game of the season 31-17 to Tommy Castellanos and the Florida State Seminoles, the Tide recovered well, winning their next eight games straight before falling to John Mateer and the No. 11-ranked Oklahoma Sooners 23-21. Alabama was ranked No. 9 when it lost in the SEC Championship 28-7 to Kirby Smart and his No. 3-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.
