Wisconsin Athletics is amid a significant change, with athletic director Chris McIntosh recently announcing his resignation.
The former Wisconsin offensive tackle and administrator is leaving the program to become the Big Ten’s deputy commissioner for strategy.
His departure comes at a critical time for Wisconsin football. The Badgers are just 9-15 over the last two seasons and 16-21 overall in three years under Luke Fickell. McIntosh’s firing of longtime head coach Paul Chryst and hiring of Fickell were major moves. Now, a new administrator will oversee a 2026 season that is critical to the coach’s future with the program.
As that search continues, Wisconsin general manager Marcus Sedberry will step into the interim athletic director position, according to UW Athletics.
Sedberry joined the Wisconsin athletic department back in 2022. After three years as its deputy athletic director and chief operating officer, he moved over to manage the Wisconsin football program in February 2025. Now, he’s tasked with helping the overall athletic department transition into a new regime.
Marcus Sedberry’s impact has been significant since joining the Badgers in 2022. He has been vital in shaping Wisconsin’s future in competition and the classroom and we’re confident in his leadership as interim Director of Athletics as we move forward. pic.twitter.com/ZB6Y6Ed8Vx
