After 12 successful seasons where he led his teams to eight PIAA District One Class 6A playoff appearances, including a district title in 2023, Central Bucks South head football coach Tom Hetrick is stepping down due to his wife Sharon's recent health diagnosis.

"I have a plaque on my desk at home that says, "Football, family and friends," Hetrick said. "Those are the things that I value the most.

"And sometimes that order changes. This time, it's changed to family first."

Central Bucks South head coach Tom Hetrick watches from the sidelines during a football game against Central Bucks East, Friday, September, 12, 2025, at Central Bucks South High School in Warrington. The Titans defeated the Patriots 21-14.

Long-time assistant coaches Bart Szarko and John Cataldo will serve as co-coaches for the upcoming season. Szarko had been serving as the Titans' offensive coordinator while Cataldo was the defensive coordinator.

"Our coaching staff has been together for a long time, and our program won't skip a beat," Hetrick said.

"They're going to do a great job for the kids like they've always done."

During Hetrick's tenure, the Titans went 82-50 with eight winning seasons and the aforementioned district title in 2023.

The 2023 team finished with a school-record 13 wins against just two losses.

In 2024, the Titans won the Suburban One League National Conference with a 7-0 conference record and an overall record of 12-1.

Szarko was South's first head coach when the school opened in 2004 and served in that position until 2009, then assisted head coach Dave Rackovan from 2010-13 and Hetrick since 2014.
