The first College Football Playoff rankings put Georgia football in a spot that didn’t deviate from the latest two major weekly polls.

The Bulldogs sit at No. 5 in the 12-person selection committee’s first reveal on Tuesday Nov. 4. That’s the same spot Georgia is at in the US LBM Coaches Poll and Associated Press poll.

Georgia is 7-1 with a win at No. 25 Tennessee and at home against No. 6 Ole Miss.

Next up is a game at Mississippi State Saturday at noon ET, home against No. 11 Texas and then two weeks later against No. 17 Georgia Tech in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

This was the first of five CFP rankings to be released until the final top 25 on Sunday Dec. 7.

Georgia had been in the top 3 in the first rankings each of the last four years. It made the playoff in 2021, 2022 and 2024 and missed out on it in 2023 when it started No. 2.

It was No. 9 in 2020 and No. 6 in the initial rankings in 2019 and 2018.

How many teams in College Football Playoff 2025?

The playoff expanded from a four-team to 12-team field in 2024. Unlike last season, the four highest ranked teams will be slotted as the top four seeds regardless of conference. The Big Ten or SEC champion and runner-up could all be in the top four. If any of the five highest ranked conference champions aren’t in the top 12, they will be seeded at the bottom of the bracket.

When next College Football Playoff rankings come out

The second CFP rankings will be revealed during the top 25 rankings show on Tuesday Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
