Well then.
Alabama was an abject disaster for the 1st quarter. Oklahoma got out to a 7 point lead after the Tide went 3 and out. Then they went three and out again, and Oklahoma scored again. And rinse-repeat, and suddenly the Sooners were up 17-0, and the game felt pretty well over.
Until it wasn’t.
the Tide then figured something out, with Simpson hitting Lotzier Brooks and a 3rd down back foot panic throw, then getting down the field and converting a 4th down for a TD with Brooks breaking a slew of tackles.
Then Oklahoma started tripping over themselves. Their punter inexplicably dropped his punt right after their running back dropped a sure touchdown pass, leading to a short Alabama field goal. Then following that, John Mateer threw a pick-6 to Zabien Brown, and the game was all tied up.
Things got a little weird at the end, with the Tide forcing a stop and hoping to get one more shot at scoring, but a ref ran into some random person on the sidelines and called a 15 yard penalty on Alabama.
It was a generally no good performance from Alabama that looked like they didn’t even want to be there. But one gutsy offensive drive and a couple of mistakes from Oklahoma let the Tide back in.
Can they cash in in the second half? We can hope
Roll Tide
