The Los Angeles Chargers have been anticipating the departure of defensive coordinator Jesse Minter this offseason. Minter has been a top candidate for multiple NFL head coaching positions and has now officially been hired by the Baltimore Ravens.

This will be Minter’s first NFL head coaching position after spending several years as a defensive coordinator for the Chargers and Michigan under Jim Harbaugh.

“I am truly honored to serve as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens,” Minter said in a statement, per ESPN’s Jamison Hensley. “This is an organization whose values, culture and tradition of excellence reflect everything I believe about the game of football and how it should be played.”

“Jesse is a strong leader who possesses a brilliant football mind and a spirit that will resonate with our players and fan base alike,” Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said in a statement, per ESPN. “Jesse comes from a football family, with success at every level of the sport and we are confident that he is the right coach to lead the Ravens forward.”

In an end-of-season press conference last week, Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Joe Hortiz said they were expecting Minter to take on a head coaching role for next season.

Hortiz said the Chargers plan to look within the organization’s defensive staff, along with external candidates, for a potential new defensive coordinator. He also said he feels the Chargers will be prepared to adjust if Minter were to leave the team.

“You’re prepared … you have a list of candidates ready if he does depart,” Hortiz said in the press conference. “We have a lot of great coaches on the staff, on the defensive staff that will be considered too if he does depart. We got great players here, on both sides of the ball. I have confidence in them that if Jesse does get an opportunity, which would be well deserved, we’ll be able to adjust.”

Defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale is reportedly an option for defensive coordinator next season, according to The Athletic’s Daniel Popper

The Chargers hired former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel as the new offensive coordinator on Monday. And now, Los Angeles is on the hunt for a new defensive coordinator and offensive line coach.
