The longtime radio personality says he won’t participate in reported projects unless Wendy Williams is involved in telling her own story.
Charlamagne Tha God says he will not participate in a reported Wendy Williams documentaries unless Williams herself is involved in telling her story. His position comes after Williams spoke directly about her guardianship on “The Breakfast Club” and challenged her diagnosis while fighting for greater control over her life.
Complex reported that Charlamagne addressed the competing projects during the Aug. 6 episode of “The Breakfast Club.” Peacock and Netflix are reportedly developing separate documentaries about Williams, and Charlamagne said he would not take part if she were excluded.
“That’s why I wouldn’t be involved. I wouldn’t be involved if Wendy’s not involved,” he said. He compared the situation to documentaries centered on other living public figures whose subjects participated in telling their own stories.
The Peacock project is being developed by Suzanne Bass, a former co-producer of “The Wendy Williams Show.” Complex reported that Bass and Williams are no longer close. “Breakfast Club” personality Loren LoRosa said Peacock and Netflix appear to be competing over which Williams-focused project reaches viewers first.
Charlamagne’s stance carries extra weight because of his long history with Williams. He worked with her on “The Wendy Williams Experience” on WBLS from 2006 to 2008 and has continued discussing her circumstances publicly.
The documentary projects also arrive after the controversy surrounding Lifetime’s 2024 docuseries “Where Is Wendy Williams?” Williams’ court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, pursued legal action against A&E over that series before a settlement was reached.
Williams has spent years under a court-appointed guardianship. In January 2025, she called “The Breakfast Club” and said she was “not cognitively impaired” while describing the arrangement as restrictive. A later medical evaluation reportedly found that she did not have frontotemporal dementia, contradicting an earlier diagnosis.
For now, neither Peacock nor Netflix has announced a release date.
