Believe it or not, we’re rapidly approaching the early signing period, which is set to take place from December 3-5. During that time, we expect many of Michigan’s currently committed players (and maybe a few more late targets) to put pen to paper and take the next step toward officially becoming Wolverines. Depending on which recruiting service you like to look at, the Wolverines are currently pegged around the No. 10 spot in terms of national class rankings.
Before the signing period can commence though, a few commits are still finishing up their senior seasons or have just closed the book on their high school careers. Today, we’ll be taking a look at how some of the higher-profile players in Michigan’s 2026 class have fared this fall. Players below are listed in the order that they appear on the 247Sports Composite.
Five-star RB Savion Hiter
Savion Hiter has been the biggest name in Michigan’s class since he committed back in August. His Louisa County High School team has been cruising this year, currently with a perfect 10-0 record. As expected, the five-star running back has been putting up some outstanding numbers with 683 yards and 10 touchdowns on just 37 carries (18.5 yards per carry). Back in October, he recorded 261 yards and six touchdowns on just 12 carries in one game. He’s also been playing some linebacker in addition to his role on offense.
Five-star Edge Carter Meadows
Carter Meadows is looking to be the next in a long line of great defensive ends for Michigan, but currently he’s starring for Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C. The Eagles are 5-4 in a tough conference in the DMV, but it hasn’t stopped Meadows from standing out individually. He’s also a power forward on the basketball team, but it remains to be seen if he’ll be on the court this year rather than enroll early at Michigan.
Four-star DL Titan Davis
He might not be the highest-ranked player in Michigan’s class, but Titan Davis certainly has a five-star name and looks like he could develop into a strong defensive tackle for the Wolverines. He plays for De Smet Jesuit High School in the St. Louis area and was part of a state championship team least year. As a junior, he finished with 46 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and nine sacks.
Four-star WR Travis Johnson
Travis Johnson was a big part of last year’s state championship run for the Oscar Smith Tigers. As a junior, he finished the year with 63 receptions for 1,053 yards and 17 touchdowns. He’s also a star on the basketball court and helped Oscar Smith reach the state semifinals last year. The Tigers currently sit at 9-1 on the year and are looking to make another title run. Next year, Johnson could represent a big addition to the Michigan receiver room that could make an immediate impact, much like Andrew Marsh has so far.
Four-star Edge Julian Walker
Alongside Meadows and Davis, Julian Walker represents an under-the-radar piece of a great defensive line class for Michigan. He plays his high school ball at Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, South Carolina, and his team is currently in the state playoffs with an 8-1 record. He’ll be looking to secure the second state championship of his high school career after leading Dutch Fork to the 5A title last year.
Four-star WR Zion Robinson
In an offseason where Michigan is going to need wide receivers, Zion Robinson is another talented addition to the group alongside Johnson and three-star Jaylen Pile. In nine games this year, Robinson has hauled in 42 passes for 794 yards and 11 touchdowns for Mansfield High School in Mansfield, Texas. In addition to excelling on the gridiron, he also competes in track and field and plays basketball. At 6-foot-3, he figures to be field-stretching jump-ball threat in the Wolverine offense.
Four-star TE Matt Ludwig
Michigan went out to Big Sky country to find a tight end, nabbing Matt Ludwig from Billings West High School in Billings, Montana. In nine games this year, he has 38 receptions for 615 yards and four touchdowns. In addition to his role on the football field, Ludwig also wrestles, plays basketball and competes in track and field. He’ll look to represent the second time in recent years that Michigan has struck gold at tight end by looking out west, as former Wolverine Colston Loveland was a relatively overlooked prospect coming out of Idaho.
Four-star QB Brady Smigiel
Joining the Michigan program between 2025 commit Bryce Underwood and 2027 commit Peter Bourque, Brady Smigiel might be a bit overlooked as this year’s quarterback prospect. Smigiel is only the No. 19 quarterback nationally, but it hasn’t stopped him from being productive for Newbury Park High School in California this year. In six games this year — before he tore his ACL — Smigiel registered a 64 percent completion percentage, 1,624 passing yards and 15 touchdowns.
An additional cool nugget on Smigiel, his offensive coordinator for Newbury Park is former Utah star Cam Rising.
