Chesney praises UCLA offensive line for Wayne Knight's early success

The UCLA football team welcomed San Diego State to the Rose Bowl on Saturday evening for the Bruins' home opener, which UCLA won 28-10 to remain unbeaten.

After the game, Bruins head coach Bob Chesney spoke to the media about the play of Wayne Knight. The senior running back rushed 13 times for 97 yards and three touchdowns.

“Obviously, he had three touchdowns (and) it was the first time he ever did it in his career. I didn't know that, and he did it twice in a row, so I think that's probably shown something even more than what people thought," Chesney said Saturday. "I think we all knew what he was pretty capable of and I thought, again – you watch Wayne, but let's just talk a little bit about the offensive line in there as well from (the offensive line) pulling around on that one run, it was violent at the point of attack like he was and then the receiver's blocking on the outside.

"Wayne doesn't just score by himself. He needs a whole lot of help and I think that those guys played a physical tough game up front which allowed him to have the success that he had and I think he'd be the first to say that.”

UCLA (2-0) will be back at the Rose Bowl on Saturday at 8 p.m. to play Purdue (1-1) in Big Ten action.
