Chris Brown rejects Texas honor, accuses Venton Jones of ‘tap dancing’ after apology

The singer lashed out after Jones apologized for recognizing Brown amid backlash over the singer’s legal history and prior accusations of domestic abuse.
Days after receiving an honor from the State of Texas, Chris Brown is ready to give the award back.
Brown responded to Texas State Rep. Venton Jones, who appeared on Don Lemon’s morning show on Tuesday to apologize to Black women and domestic abuse survivors for awarding Brown with a proclamation. Initially, Brown thanked both Jones and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), but in a later message, he apologized to Crockett for “any backlash” she may face on his account.
“Thank you so much,” Brown wrote on Monday. “I apologize for any backlash you have to deal with for awarding for me.” He added that he is “not political” and expressed gratitude for the recognition. “I’m not political but I move off of frequency and energy and I’m so grateful. ONCE AGAIN, THANK YOU.”
Jones did not get the same treatment following his appearance on Lemon’s show. Responding to The Shade Room’s post of Jones’ apology, Brown wrote, “I don’t want the award anymore my brother. You went on with don lemon and started tap dancing. Yall keep that sh-t.”
In his Instagram Stories, Brown didn’t hold back.
“Funny thing is, y’all came to me with this ! Not the other way around,” Brown wrote. “I was minding my damn business. My shows in Dallas were already sold out. I ain’t ask to be honored because I knew some sh-t like this would happen and @ventonionest immediately started tap dancing and apologizing because he didn’t wanna lose voters and support.”
He added, “I have a great idea.. how about yall leave me the f-ck alone and let me focus on the fans that spent their money to actually see and support me.”
Brown receiving honors from Crockett and Jones created a wave of online backlash for Brown, who has faced a history of legal issues regarding former partners and earlier this year, pled guilty to affray over a nightclub attack in London in 2023. He faces sentencing in October.
Jones stated he and Crockett were onstage not only to present Brown and Usher for their contributions to music and entertainment, but also to raise awareness and mobilize voters for the upcoming midterm elections.
