Christopher Vargas, No. 1 QB In 2028, Commits To Ohio State

Ohio State look pretty well set at quarterback right now with Julian Sayin under center for at least one more year and possibly two or even three. But the Buckeyes won't have to wait long to find a replacement starter for him after landing the top QB in the 2028 recruiting class.

On Saturday, 2028 five-star quarterback Christopher Vargas announced his commitment to Ohio State. Vargas is the No. 1 QB in both the Rivals300 and the 247Sports Composite.

“Just the coaching staff and the place they’re at, the culture, they have everything that is great for me and the right fit for me,” Vargas told reporters when announcing his decision. “I think Ohio State is the place that can develop me the best.”

Taking to X after the announcement, Vargas gave a shoutout to his future college team.

"Buckeye Nation!!! I’m home," Vargas declared.

As you might expect, fans were pretty pumped:

"OHIO STATE ISN’T RECRUITING QUARTERBACKS, THEY’RE STOCKPILING THEM landing the top qb in a class two years out isn’t about need, Ohio State doesn’t have a hole at the position for years, it’s about making sure no rival ever gets the shot… that’s a program playing chess while everyone else plays checkers on the trail," one fan proudly declared.

"Better arm, better athlete, better upside than underwood. Congrats go bucks," another excited fan wrote.

"Congrats to the new Buckeye! Guess Ohio State just upgraded from “Buckeye” to “Buck-eye candy” for the 2028 season," wrote a third.

Future Buckeyes

Vargas joins a Buckeyes recruiting class that already ranks No. 2 in the country by 247Sports. The 2028 Ohio State class already included five-star wide receiver Jett Harrison, five-star pass rusher Jameer Whyce and four-star running back Elijah Newman-Hall – all of whom rank in the top five for their respective positions.

Ohio State has yielded plenty of highly-productive quarterbacks in recent years, many of whom have contended for the Heisman Trophy or even gone in the first round of the NFL Draft.
