Can it play like that the rest of the way? If so, it’ll run the table in be deep in the discussion for an at-large playoff spot, or the Big 12 Championship if there are a slew of collapses.
This is the last chance, though, to take care of its own business, with Baylor, Kansas State, and Kansas – the next three opponents – all effectively out of the hunt.
Cincinnati controls its own destiny.
At 5-0 in the Big 12, if it wins this, and then beats Arizona, BYU, and TCU, it’s in the Big 12 Championship, and no matter what happens there, probably in the College Football Playoff.

Why Cincinnati Will Win
You can’t mess around with Utah – you have to take the fight to the Utes right away.
Texas Tech brought the defensive pressure from the start in its blowout win, and BYU hammered away with the offensive balance from jump.
Cincinnati goes fast, fast, fast. It has a great blend of tempo, downfield passing, and all with a careful style that doesn’t screw up – the Bearcats have one turnover in the last six games.
That’s partly because the line doesn’t let anyone get behind the line – defenses are always on their heels.
Utah doesn’t do much to push the ball down the field. It wants to run, control the tempo on the lines, and hammer away. When it comes to Devon Dampier throwing deep, though, he doesn’t open it up.
Why Utah Will Win
Cincinnati’s great win is over … Iowa State? That’s about it.
It’s a very good team that settled into its style, but including Nebraska, it hasn’t seen anyone with the lines Utah brings to this.
Utah is happy to hammer away. It wants to control the tempo and the style, and it should have the ball for at least 34 minutes – that’s a bit by design with how fast the Bearcats move.

Utah will be the first team all year, besides Oklahoma State, that not only commits to the ground game, but succeeds.
It’s not going to be simple – the Bearcats really are good against the run – but over time, the line will take over. Eight Cincinnati penalties, and no takeaways, will be costly in a tight game until the last few minutes when the Utes take the air out of the ball.
