Long-time high school football rivals, Jackson and Citronelle played seemingly every year against each other up until 2020.

The rivalry took a bit of a break but as the 2026 season gets underway, the two will resume things between the hashes as they kick off their seasons against each other.

There will be plenty of new faces as both teams graduated several key players from their 2025 squads. For one in particular, they lost a pair of SEC talents that led them to several key wins over the last couple of years.

Jackson football: What to know

  • The Aggies are coming off of a 13-2 season but lost several key pieces from that 2025 team, including quarterback Landon Duckworth and running back Ezavier Crowell. Duckworth is enrolled at South Carolina and Crowell is now at Alabama after rushing for 2,632 yards and 35 touchdowns last season.
  • Junior quarterback Jay Morris the Aggies' most experienced quarterback on the roster. Last year he threw for 319 yards and had a pair of touchdowns in 10 appearances.
  • Morris will have the team's leading receiver in De'corius Jackson to throw to. As a sophomore Jackson caught 53 passes for 881 yards and four touchdowns.

Citronelle football: What to know

  • The Wildcats finished 5-6 last year but bring back two of their top three rushers from 2025. Kobe Weaver totaled 197 yards on the ground but scored five times, while Javarris Coleman was second on the team with 334 rushing yards.
  • Defensively, Citronelle will be led by linebacker Timothy Rivers. The senior led the team with 121 tackles and 12 tackles for loss as a junior.
  • Citronelle also brings back a deadly one-two punch in the secondary with Weaver and CC Noyd. The duo combined for 11 interceptions including seven alone from Weaver.
