Clemson Tigers quarterback Christopher Vizzina could be available for Saturday’s ACC opener vs. the North Carolina Tar Heels despite suffering a left elbow injury last week. The Tigers listed Vizzina as probable on Wednesday’s availability report, but true freshman Tait Reynolds will make his first career start under center. The distinction provides the Tigers football team with potential quarterback depth while keeping Reynolds atop the depth chart after replacing Vizzina against Georgia Southern.
On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos underscored the Tigers’ quarterback situation Wednesday on X, formerly Twitter, while sharing reporting from On3’s Brian Jones ahead of Clemson’s Week 3 duel with the Tar Heels.
“Clemson lists QB Christopher Vizzina as probable ahead of Saturday’s game against North Carolina. Suffered a non-throwing elbow injury last week.

Regardless, Tait Reynolds will get the start.”
Vizzina suffered the injury during Clemson’s 22-7 victory over the Georgia Southern Eagles Saturday night. The senior completed 4 of 7 passes for 19 yards, one touchdown, and one interception before leaving after three series.
Reynolds then completed 16 of 27 passes for 178 yards while adding 38 rushing yards and leading the Tigers on five scoring drives. The true freshman has completed 20 of 33 passes for 200 yards without a touchdown or interception this season.
Meanwhile, the quarterback change comes as Clemson searches for more production from an offense averaging 16 points through two games. The Tigers enter their ACC opener 1-1 after losing 51-10 at LSU before defeating Georgia Southern.
Swinney has made clear that Reynolds’ promotion reflects his overall performance rather than Vizzina’s injury status. The freshman will make his first career start against a North Carolina team that enters Death Valley at 2-0.
Vizzina’s probable designation leaves him available to play if needed, but Clemson plans to open Saturday’s game with Reynolds at quarterback.
