Clemson HC Dabo Swinney explains why OL Elyjah Thurmon was shut down for the season

Clemsonfootball’s offensive line took a hit this week as Elyjah Thurmon is officially done for the season. Head coach Dabo Swinney revealed on his Monday night radio show that the sophomore lineman will undergo shoulder surgery, which will sideline him for the rest of the year.

Swinney provided more details during his Tuesday press conference, explaining that Thurmon’s shoulder issue left no other option but surgery. “It’s mother nature,” Swinney said, noting that the shoulder “keeps slipping out,” making it impossible for him to keep playing.

The setback allows Thurmon to redshirt this season, giving him the chance to return next year as a redshirt sophomore with three years of eligibility remaining.

Before the injury, Thurmon had become a steady presence on the offensive line, seeing significant time early in the season. He played 28 snaps against LSU, 51 in the win over Troy — when the offense produced both a 100-yard rusher in Adam Randall and a 100-yard receiver in Bryant Wesco Jr. — and 50 more snaps in the victory over Syracuse, where Clemson totaled over 500 yards of offense.
