Clemson wide receiver Tristan Smith is listed as a possible Senior Day participant this weekend, though his situation is not fully settled. His early years at Hutchinson Community College have raised the question of whether he might still be eligible for another season.

Players with similar backgrounds, including Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, have earned an additional year, which has fueled interest in Smith’s case. During Clemson’s radio show, Dabo Swinney was asked if anything had changed with the process.

“I don’t, other than just I know there’s a process, and I know he’s going to do everything he can to exhaust the process in seeking another year,” Swinney said.

Smith has already said he would return if the NCAA gives him that chance.

“If I just so happen to get another year, y’all are going to see me here next year,” Smith said. “I am going to be back right here next year.”

Since transferring from Southeast Missouri State ahead of the 2025 season, he has made steady contributions with 21 catches for 228 yards and one touchdown in 10 games. His 2024 season at SEMO included 76 receptions for 934 yards and six touchdowns.

Before that rise, he spent two seasons at Hutchinson, where he totaled 16 catches for 231 yards and two touchdowns across 2022 and 2023.
