Clemson loses battle to Georgia for key 2027 four-star recruit

Clemson came up short in its latest recruiting battle with Georgia, as four-star safety Seth Williams announced his commitment to the Bulldogs on Friday.

Williams had narrowed his recruitment to Clemson and Georgia after taking official visits to both programs. The 2027 prospect was previously committed to the Tigers during the spring, but his recruitment continued into the summer before he ultimately decided to join Kirby Smart’s class.

The decision gives Georgia a notable win over Clemson on the recruiting trail. The Tigers had beaten the Bulldogs for several other targets during the 2027 cycle, but this time Georgia was able to secure one of the top defensive backs on its board.

Williams’ recruitment had remained difficult to predict in recent weeks, with both programs appearing to have a legitimate chance of landing him. His choice now allows both coaching staffs to move forward as they continue building their respective classes.

Clemson is still in a strong position at safety despite missing out on Williams. The Tigers already hold commitments from four-star prospects Jarrell Chandler and Harrison Luke, giving the staff two highly rated players at the position.

With those two pledges already in place, Clemson may decide it has enough depth in the class and focus its remaining efforts elsewhere.

The Tigers currently have 25 commitments in their 2027 recruiting class, which ranks No. 13 nationally in the 247Sports Composite team rankings.
