Clemsonfootball’s sophomore lineman Elyjah Thurmon will miss the rest of the season after being ruled out for surgery, head coach Dabo Swinney said on his weekly radio show Monday night.

Thurmon has been sidelined since early October after suffering an injury in practice leading up to Clemson’s game against North Carolina. He had already dealt with another setback earlier in the year, which kept him out against Georgia Tech. Swinney confirmed that the team decided to move forward with surgery so Thurmon can redshirt and keep three years of eligibility.

The 6-foot-4, 325-pound lineman had been part of Clemson’s rotation early in the season, appearing in three contests, including the opener against LSU and games against Troy and Syracuse. A native of Mississippi who finished high school in Georgia, Thurmon was in his second year with the Tigers after logging 146 snaps as a freshman last season.
