Usually, athletes are the ones on curfew, while the more mature adults are trusted to make sound decisions on their own. That won’t be the case when Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for their revenge game on Sept. 3.

Last year, Colorado kicked off their season against Georgia Tech, but it wasn’t the start coach Prime was hoping for. After tying the game at 20-20 with 8:25 remaining, Colorado allowed Georgia Tech QB Haynes King to go off for a 45-yard rushing touchdown with just 67 seconds remaining. The Buffaloes lost 27-20.

A year later, the Buffaloes set the same foe to kick off their season, but this time coach Prime has a different plan.

Deion Sanders Says Coaches, Not Players, Will Have Curfew

During Sanders’ appearance at Big 12 Media Days on Tuesday, Louis Riddick asked the Colorado football coach what it’s going to be like to “head back to Atlanta” to face Georgia Tech.

Clearly still miffed by last season’s loss to the Yellow Jackets, coach Sanders revealed a peculiar plan. Instead of players having to be back inside by a specific time, coaches will be the ones on curfew, and the whole set burst out into laughter, including Sanders.

“I got the coaches on curfew, not the kids. The coaches are having curfew against Georgia Tech. We’re going there two days early, we’ll be there on a Tuesday, we play on Thursday night in front of the whole country, I can’t wait.”

Sanders’ insinuation suggests Colorado will be taking this game very seriously. Considering the results of last season’s matchup, the Buffaloes can’t take their upcoming opponent too lightly, and this time they’re fully aware of it.

Plus, last year the Buffaloes had home-field advantage with the game taking place in front of 52,868 fans at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado. They won’t have that working in their favor this time around.

This Week 1 matchup will be played inside Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field in Atlanta, Georgia, where Colorado fans will surely be outnumbered by a cloud of Yellow Jackets.

Sanders led the Buffaloes to a 3-9 record last season. It was the worst mark he’s had since taking over as Colorado’s head coach in 2023, when he debuted with a 4-8 record.

In 2024, Sanders’ team experienced their best year yet, finishing at 9-4 and a trip to the Alamo Bowl. But his roster hasn’t quite been the same since watching Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, and two others graduate to the pros via the 2025 NFL Draft. Colorado didn’t have any players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Perhaps this is the year Colorado’s luck improves; if not, Sanders’ seat will only get warmer, possibly even too hot to put out.
