The Colorado Buffaloes suffered a humiliating 41-7 loss against the Northwestern Wildcats last weekend, a loss that visibly frustrated head coach Deion Sanders. The disappointing result dropped the Buffaloes to 2-1 on the season.
In light of that defeat, Coach Prime made headlines with an unexpected reflection about his son and former Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders, prompting strong reactions from Colorado fans.

With Shedeur Sanders leading the offense at quarterback, Coach Prime enjoyed a successful stretch during his time in Colorado. However, that stability at the position has been missing since the Buffaloes handed the starting quarterback role to Julian Lewis.
Colorado went 3-9 last season after finishing the 2024 season with a 9-4 record.
On Tuesday, Deion Sanders spoke to the media ahead of the Buffaloes’ Big 12 opener. During the press conference, the Colorado head coach admitted he underestimated the value of the quarterback position while having Shedeur at Colorado.
“I took for granted that position of how valuable it was because that position was always one room over in my house,” Sanders said <a href="https://x.com/ocuhayes/status/2102452112223547735?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 22, 2026 ). “So, it’s easy to take that for granted when it’s right there.
“My whole life of coaching youth ball, coaching junior high, coaching high school, coaching college. It was right there at sleep. You know, all I had to do is wake it up and it was gonna do what it’s gonna do. So, that was my fault taking that for granted.”

However, Coach Prime’s admission did not sit well with many fans, with several supporters interpreting the remarks as criticism or an indirect reference to the current situation at Colorado.
“This statement is coaching malpractice,” one fan wrote.
“This type [expletives] loses you the locker room,” one user slammed.
“That’s definitely a shot at someone,” one comment read.
“Just can’t take accountability for being a medicore coach,” a fan remarked.
“I don’t like that. Weird statement,” one fan commented.
“That was so TWO YEARS AGO ffs,” a fan added.
Lewis is currently ranked no. 102 in PFN’s latest College QB Impact Rankings. Following his disappointing performance against Northwestern, Sanders appeared to draw a distinction between being a football player and being a leader when discussing his young quarterback.

Beyond his comments about Lewis, Coach Prime also made headlines after the Northwestern loss because of his reaction to several players laughing following the defeat.
Sanders expressed his displeasure with their behavior, and Colorado has since removed several players from the team for what the head coach described as “conduct detrimental to the team.”
Neither Sanders nor the team provided specific names of the players who were dismissed. However, Colorado fans could get a clearer picture once the updated depth chart is released later this week.
The Buffaloes will now turn their attention toward their Big 12 schedule as they travel to face Baylor on Saturday.
