Even though we still have a full month remaining in the regular season, college football’s coaching carousel is already on fire. Already, we have numerous high-profile jobs open, including LSU, Florida, Penn State, and Auburn. With the possibility of even more movement, this cycle has the potential to supplant 2021-2022 as the wildest in recent memory.

Even though the past few seasons have not lived up to standards at USC, it is extremely unlikely that the Trojans would fire Lincoln Riley this year. But could the Trojans’ head coach still potentially be on the move in this cycle?

In his weekly show with Will Compton and Taylor Lewan of “Bussin’ with the Boys”, college football analyst Josh Pate teased the possibility without going into more details.

“Let’s just keep an eye on Lincoln Riley at USC,” Pate said.

Given that Pate is fairly well-connected in college football, this raises a lot of questions. Could Riley be a candidate for the LSU job? Notably, the Tigers wanted him four years ago, but Riley picked USC instead, and LSU hired Brian Kelly. What about Florida? Or could another job that has not even opened up yet potentially be in play for the Trojans’ head coach?

Notably, none of the administrators who hired Riley at USC four years ago are still with the Trojans. While Riley and current athletic director Jennifer Cohen seemingly have a good relationship, perhaps the rumors suggest that things are not as smooth behind the scenes as they seem.

Obviously, these are just rumors, and nothing has actually happened yet. However, the situation is certainly one to keep an eye on as the coaching carousel continues to heat up.
