College Football Fans Obsessed With Alabama, Tennessee's Uniform Matchup

The Alabama-Tennessee game, also known as The Third Saturday in October, ranks among the most storied rivalries in college football (even if it was a little one-sided for a while). When the rivalry continues on October 17 this year, both teams will get to wear special uniforms for it.
On Wednesday, Alabama and Tennessee announced that both of their teams will be wearing their home uniforms for the 2026 game in Knoxville and the 2027 game in Tuscaloosa. It will be the first time since 1970 that both teams will wear their home uniforms for the historic rivalry game.
“The Third Saturday in October 🔥 For the first time since 1970, Tennessee and Alabama will wear their home unis in the 2026 and 2027 rivalry games,” the SEC Network announced.
Three Cheers for the Third Saturday
Fans and analysts applauded the move, with some expressing hope that it becomes a permanent move:
“Make this an all time tradition please, both fanbases want this,” one Volunteers fan wrote.
“Hell yeah. Hopefully it just becomes permanent,” wrote another.
“How all rivalry games should be unless the rare occasion occurs where both teams have the same colors,” a third remarked.
“The only reason one team ever had to wear white in any sport is because of black and white TV in the 1950s. No need for that anymore. All games should be color vs. color provide they contrast enough.”
“Back to the way it’s supposed to be. Beautiful.”
As for the football game, Alabama had Tennessee’s number for the better part of two decades during Nick Saban’s tenure. But in recent years, the Volunteers have gotten a few back, winning back-to-back games over the Crimson Tide at Neyland Stadium.
Tennessee will try to make it three in a row at Neyland this year.
As for 2027, Alabama hasn’t lost to Tennessee in Tuscaloosa since 2003.
