Jon Sumrall was an unquestioned star during Florida's SEC Media Days on Thursday. He showed incredible charisma, talked confidently about his team, shared some laughs, and had a couple of moments that would get anyone ready to run through a wall.

His showing ended with getting an opportunity to share the panel desk for the SEC Network. In an interview that he may have thought would be a layup, the interview turned into getting some sage advice from one of the all-time greats.

Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban jokingly gave Sumrall a piece of his mind now that he himself is a Florida resident. He said, "I’m a Florida resident now, down there amongst the Gators… and I want you to know I’m kind of a semi-Gator. So if you don’t get your s— together, I’m gonna be in the middle of it.”

Everyone laughed and shared a very funny moment, which felt like the hundredth viral moment from Sumrall's day, but it was a reminder of where the Gators program has fallen.

Ever since Urban Meyer left for Ohio State in the early 2010s, the Gators program has never been the same. It has been year after year of mediocre play, dumb mistakes on the field, and an overall average record.

Sumrall was put in charge to make sure that those days are a thing of the past.

His track record is truly what made him stand out and what made him so attractive to the Florida program. In four years as a Division I head coach, Sumrall has only had one season with fewer than 10 wins, and that was his first year at Tulane when they went 9-5.

His career record is 45-12 with two programs that are historically not football powerhouses or even factors.

He turned Tulane so far around that he had the Green Wave in the College Football Playoffs last year before they bowed out to the Ole Miss Rebels.

Everywhere that he goes, he wins. The situation that he is inheriting in Gainesville isn't that far off from what Saban picked up in Tuscaloosa. The Tide were in the middle of a couple of .500 seasons when they hired the greatest coach of all time.

Saban's first season was 7-6 and then the Tide never experienced mediocrity again.

This could absolutely be Sumrall's career arc, and if it is, there will be no reason for Saban to get involved. He can enjoy his newfound fandom of the Gators with his feet kicked up.
