Ever since the College Football Playoff took the sport by storm back in 2014, the site of the national championship game has rotated around neutral sites instead of being embedded in the bowl system like it was prior to that year.
We've seen typical warm-weather locations like South Florida, Arizona, and the San Francisco Bay Area take turns hosting the annual game, and we just received word on which city will be the host for the 2029 CFP title game. But we've also had Indianapolis and the Dallas area get their turns.
According to a release from the CFP, Tampa, Florida, has been awarded the game, making it the fourth location that has been awarded the game twice. The game will take place on Monday, January 22, 2029, inside Raymond James Stadium, and will conclude the 2028 college football season.
"We are excited to bring the College Football Playoff National Championship back to Tampa Bay in 2029," said Rich Clark, Executive Director of the College Football Playoff (CFP). "The city has established itself as an exceptional host for world-class sporting events, and its vibrant downtown, beautiful waterfront, and proven commitment to excellence make it an ideal setting for college football's greatest night. We look forward to partnering with the Tampa Bay Sports Commission and local leaders to deliver a national championship experience worthy of college football's biggest stage."
The 2029 game will be the 15th CFP game either played or scheduled since the first game in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in 2015. You may remember what program took home that title.
Here are all of the venues and communities that have been awarded the CFP game in the past and future to date.
