Programs around the country are shifting their focus from the Transfer Portal back to high school recruiting.
In the state of Texas, star-studded junior days were taking shape at Baylor and Texas Tech this weekend.
Mother Nature has other plans.
The threat of ice storms across the Lone Star State has compelled both Big 12 programs to push back their big recruiting weekends to at least January 31.
The Red Raiders inked their best recruiting class ever after a decorated season, Big 12 title and appearance in the College Football Playoff. Head coach Joey McGuire and General Manager James Blanchard were ready to get blue-chip targets like priority WR Julian Caldwell and 4-star RB Lathan Whisenton back to Lubbock on Saturday.
Texas Tech is pressing to get many of its blue-chip commits and remaining targets out to West Texas next weekend instead. That process started as early as Monday as weather reports started to pop up.
Baylor was gearing up for its biggest recruiting function of the month with several top targets and recently offered prospects visiting Waco.
Early in-state 4-star commits like Davontrae Kirkland and LB Karece Hoyt were among the top recruits expected. So were top 2027 targets like RB Javian Jones-Priest and QB Greydon Howell; Rivals300 DL Ezekiel Ayangbile, newly offered DL Brayden White, 3-star EDGE Alexander Coey and 3-star LB Bryce Breeden.
The Bears are aiming to get all of these prospects back on campus for January 31.
Elsewhere in the state, Texas A&M is still ready to host top prospects, though some out-of-state targets may not be able to travel in with the impending storms. More on the Aggies’ 5-star weekend here.
Other teams across the South having to cancel or move back junior days include Missouri, Tennessee and North Carolina State.
