The Southeastern Conference had a largely quiet Week 11, with all its top teams securing victories over their underdog opponents.
The top-ranked team in the SEC, No. 3 Texas A&M (No. 3 in College Football Playoff) took care of business with a 38-17 win over No. 17 Missouri (No. 22 CFP). The Aggies' defense was cited as a weakness compared to the Big Ten teams in the initial CFP rankings, but they limited the Tigers to a mere 284 yards on the day (despite giving up a touchdown and more than 100 yards rushing to each of Ahmad Hardy and Jamal Roberts).
Meanwhile, No. 4 Alabama (No. 4 CFP) handed LSU a 20-9 loss behind a strong performance from quarterback Ty Simpson, who completed 21 of 35 passes (60%) for 277 yards and a touchdown. The Crimson Tide defense was also stingy, forcing three fumbles (recovering two) and limiting LSU to 232 yards and no touchdowns. Interim coach Frank Wilson benched LSU starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier for backup Michael Van Buren.
Elsewhere, No. 5 Georgia (No. 5 CFP) overcame a potential trap game vs. Mississippi State, beating their fellow Bulldogs 41-21 after facing an early 7-0 deficit. No. 7 Ole Miss (No. 6 CFP) did not have any issues with The Citadel — Lane Kiffin even managed time to crash a wedding proposal — and Kentucky crushed Florida 38-7.
Arguably the most competitive game of the Week 11 SEC schedule was No. 16 Vanderbilt's home game vs. Auburn. The Tigers jumped out to a 20-10 halftime lead, but couldn't withstand a comeback by Diego Pavia and the Commodores, who sent the game to overtime and eventually won 45-38.
