College Football SEC power rankings entering Week 2

The SEC is the only conference in America to be undefeated after Week 1 of college football. SEC homers will use this as a sign to point to the conference’s superiority, and SEC haters will use this to point to the lack of challenging non-conference scheduling.

In any event, having every team in your 16-team league win in a given week is an accomplishment. It also speaks to the quality of the bottom half of the SEC that is not present in the other Power-4 conferences. Remember: it just means more.

10. Florida

It’s early, but Jon Sumrall looks like a great hire. Buster Faulkner at OC also looks like a great hire. Aaron Philo came over from Georgia Tech with Faulkner and displayed great command of the offense, and the run-heavy approach led to a career day from Jadan Baugh.

9. South Carolina

The new-look Gamecock offense impressed in a 57-0 victory over Kent State. And the craziest part – LaNoris Sellers did all of his damage with his arm, throwing for 270 yards and 3 TDs, while only rushing twice for 1 yard. If the Gamecocks get this kind of passing production out of Sellers every week, it should be a good year – hopefully good enough to save Shane Beamer’s job.

8. Tennessee

True freshman Faizon Brandon looked unstoppable in his debut against Furman, totalling 5 TDs through the air and on the ground. The last SEC QB to account for 5 TDs in their first start was Cam Newton for Auburn in 2010. That’s pretty good company to be in.

7. Oklahoma

The Sooners did what they were supposed to do against an inept UTEP team, winning 51-0. John Mateer was solid but unspectacular, but the biggest development is that Oklahoma may have a run game this year! Colorado State transfer Lloyd Avant may give them the exact punch that they needed in the run game.

6. Texas A&M

Missouri State is going to be very bad. But Texas A&M also did their part to make them look very bad in a 50-0 victory. We’re yet to really see how the losses from the 2025 roster impact this one. It’s a testament to how dominant this entire league was on Saturday that A&M gets a slight downgrade after a 50-0 victory.

5. Alabama

Keelon Russell looked great in his debut. Period. Granted, the opponent was East Carolina, but he showcased the accuracy and ability to extend and improvise with his legs that made him such a prized QB recruit two years ago. This performance warrants an instant upgrade for Bama’s outlook this season.

4. Ole Miss

The Ole Miss Rebels are the only team in the nation that owns a top-25 win, which is a sad commentary on the Week 1 slate as a whole. They looked about as expected against Louisville – Trinidad Chambliss is one of the best quarterbacks in college football, and Kewan Lacy gives him a great run game as a complement. The defense is a work in progress.

Holy cow! The Tigers put a complete beatdown on Clemson on Saturday, winning 51-10 in Lane

Kiffin’s LSU debut. They dominated in every facet of the game, and the amount of raw talent that Lane recruited to Baton Rouge showed up on film and in the box score. This was the most impressive performance of Week 1, and they may find themselves even higher on this list as the season progresses. True National Championship contenders.

2. Texas

The Longhorns looked great against Texas State in a 59-7 victory, but they were supposed to! The biggest development for Texas is the arrival of Cam Coleman, who may just be the antidote to Steve Sarkisian’s red zone woes. Not once, but twice, Cam Coleman was targeted in the red zone in a 1-on-1 situation, and he won both for TD scores.

1. Georgia

I said last week that Georgia’s biggest opponent in Week 1 was the point spread, not their actual opponent. Well, they covered. In a game that honestly didn’t even feel like a fair fight, the Dawgs were called off in the second half after being beaten down by Tennessee State, which ended with a final score of 63-3. We learned nothing from this, but also, Georgia didn’t provide any reason to be bumped down the rankings, either.
