College football is trending on social media in early March, and it's not because of a head coaching hire or a recruiting commitment. Instead, it's because of a program's personnel hiring.
The University of Michigan has officially added a new recruiting coordinator to its staff. The Wolverines, who fired head coach Sherrone Moore amid controversy last December and hired former Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham, are hiring former USC staffer Skylar Phan.
The Michigan Insider confirmed the hire.
"Tuesday afternoon, it was confirmed by The Michigan Insider on 247Sports that the Wolverines are hiring Skylar Phan to their front office. Phan was previously Director of Recruiting Strategy for USC, where she helped the Trojans sign the nation's No. 1 recruiting class in the 2026 class, per 247Sports, compared to the No. 13 class in 2025, and No. 17 class in 2024," 247Sports reported.
"Prior to her time with USC, she spent the 2023 recruiting cycle serving as director of on-campus recruiting for Houston, then North Texas. She also interned with the Las Vegas Raiders as an operations assistant in 2022."
News of the hire has quickly gone viral on social media.
Bussin With The Boys, which has more than 300,000 followers on X, tweeted out the news on Wednesday. Their tweet has already been viewed more than 250,000 times.

Phan has a strong background in recruiting
Phan, who has previously worked at USC and Texas, could be a strong addition to the University of Michigan's recruiting efforts.
The Wolverines are heading into Year 1 of the Kyle Whittingham era.
"While an undergraduate student at Texas, Phan was a football recruiting and operations assistant, and assisted with recruiting events, creating itineraries and managing an internship program," 247Sports added.
"Phan's hiring comes two weeks after the Wolverines hired Dave Peloquin to be the school's next GM, overseeing the front-office side of the program. Peloquin previously was heading Athletes First's College Representation Division. Prior to that, he spent 21 years at Notre Dame in a variety of roles including assistant AD for football strategic initiatives."
Phan has close to 5,000 followers on Instagram, but that number is likely to go up now that she's at Michigan.
The Wolverines will look to play themselves into College Football Playoff contention in 2026.
