'College GameDay' announces conference championship game location

For the third year in a row, ESPN’s “College GameDay” is heading to the SEC championship game.

Host Rece Davis, legendary Alabama football coach Nick Saban, and fellow analysts Pat McAfee, Desmond Howard and Kirk Herbstreit will be at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta for the rematch between the Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs.

It’s the second time this year “GameDay” has visited an Alabama game. It traveled to Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa on Oct. 4, when the Crimson Tide defeated Vanderbilt, 30-14, in a top 25 matchup in Week 6. For Georgia, it’s the third time this season the Bulldogs will appear on “GameDay.”

While “GameDay” wasn’t in Athens for the Week 5 Alabama-Georgia game, which the Crimson Tide won 24-21 at Sanford Stadium, the rematch in Atlanta will have even more at stake.

Alabama (10-2, 7-1 SEC) is ranked No. 10 in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll and No. 4 in the most recent College Football Playoff rankings. Georgia (11-1, 7-1) is ranked No. 3 in the top 25 polls and is currently No. 4 in the CFP. The new rankings will be unveiled Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT.

For Georgia, the Bulldogs would lock up a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff if Kirby Smart’s team is able to avenge its regular-season loss to the Tide.

For Alabama, its path to the CFP would be more complicated with a third loss, but a win and an 11-2 mark as SEC champions would propel the Crimson Tide into a more favorable position in the committee’s eyes in the final CFP rankings release on Sunday.

Kickoff for Alabama-Georgia is 3 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ABC.

“College GameDay” on ESPN begins at 8 a.m. CT each week.

How many times has Alabama football hosted, appeared on ‘College GameDay?’

Oct. 4, 2025; Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA; Former Alabama coach Nick Saban smiles as he is on set during ESPN’s College GameDay on location on the Quad at the University of Alabama before the Alabama versus Vanderbilt game.

According to the NCAA, Saturday will be Alabama’s 62nd overall appearance on “College GameDay” since the show’s first remote broadcast in November 1993. The Crimson Tide trail only the Ohio State Buckeyes, who have appeared on “GameDay” 68 times.

Alabama has also hosted “GameDay” 21 times. Only Ohio State has hosted more times (26) than Alabama.

Georgia will be making its 43rd all-time appearance on “GameDay,” and its third appearance this season. Alabama will be making its second “GameDay” appearance this season.

‘College GameDay’ no stranger to Alabama football in SEC championship game

Alabama will be making its SEC-leading 16th appearance in the SEC championship game. The Crimson Tide are 11-4 overall in the conference title game, including 4-0 against Georgia.

For “College GameDay,” it’s the seventh time the show will broadcast from Atlanta for Alabama’s appearance in the SEC championship game. “GameDay” has visited Atlanta for all five meetings between Alabama and Georgia in the SEC title game, as well as the Crimson Tide’s 2008 and 2009 games against the Florida Gators.

Alabama-Georgia will mark the 12th time overall that “GameDay” has visited the SEC title game since 2003, when Nick Saban’s LSU Tigers defeated Georgia, 34-13. Saban won the BCS National Championship a month later in New Orleans when LSU defeated Oklahoma, 21-14, on Jan. 4, 2004 at the Louisiana Superdome.
