‘College GameDay’ will visit three straight SEC schools to open 2026 season

ESPN has announced coverage plans for College GameDay in the 2026 season and officially confirmed the show will exclusively visit SEC schools during the first three weeks of the college football season.
The Worldwide Leader confirmed that College GameDay will be at LSU in Week 1, the University of Texas in Week 2, and Ole Miss in Week 3.
Two of those weeks seem to be tied to new LSU head coach and former Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin. Kiffin left Ole Miss for LSU after the team’s final regular-season game, despite Ole Miss being alive in the College Football Playoff.
LSU will take on Clemson in Baton Rouge in Week 1 and will play at Ole Miss in Week 3. Texas will face Ohio State in Austin in Week 2, in what could be a top-five matchup. Ohio State is ranked No. 1 in the AP poll to start the season, while Texas is No. 5.
ESPN also confirmed the College GameDay on-air talent, which is not seeing any major changes compared to 2025. Rece Davis will host the show alongside Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, and Nick Saban. Steve Coughlin, Jen Lada, Jess Sims, and Pete Thamel will also contribute.
College GameDay will be celebrating 40 seasons in 2026, and Week 1 will mark the show’s 500th edition on the road. ESPN will use special logos to commemorate both marks.
While Week 1 is the traditional start of the college football season, ESPN will also air games a week before as part of Week Zero. College GameDay wont be on the air in Week Zero, however. Instead, ESPN will air a special edition of College Football Countdown from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29. Kevin Negandhi will host the show alongside Greg McElroy, Jesse Palmer, Booger McFarland, and Pete Thamel.
