Collin Klein contract: What to know about Kansas State coach's salary

MANHATTAN — It’s official. Collin Klein is the next head football coach of his alma mater, Kansas State.
The university announced on Thursday, Dec. 4, saying Klein would return to lead the Wildcats.
He will be introduced to the public on Friday in a welcome event at Morgan Family Arena, with doors opening at 3 p.m. and a ceremony beginning at 4 p.m. It will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Klein replaces Chris Klieman, who retired after seven seasons as coach.
Klein returns to Manhattan after two years as an offensive coordinator at Texas A&M.
Minimal details were immediately made available regarding Klein’s contract. The Capital-Journal will work to obtain his full contract.

Early contract details say that Klein agreed to a five-year contract with an average base salary of $4.3 million.

According to the USA TODAY Assistant Coach Salaries database, which was updated in Dec. 2024, Klein made $1.6 million to coach the Aggies’ offense. He was the 17th-highest paid assistant coach in college football.
Chris Klieman salary at Kansas State
Klieman made $5.25 million as Kansas State’s football coach in 2025, which ranked 46th among head coaches in the country.

Klein, a first-time head coach, would rank 56th among the highest-paid coaches, according to the USA TODAY Head Coach Salaries database, updated in October.
He would rank just below Mississippi State’s Jeff Lebby and ahead of UCF’s Scott Frost. It would rank 12th among publicly available contracts within the Big 12.
