Colorado Buffaloes Sign 1,100-Yard WR Jacob Swain to Boost 2026 Roster

In his third year with the Colorado Buffaloes, Deion Sanders did not achieve much success. After a 9-4 record in 2024, the team struggled in 2025, finishing with a disappointing 3-9 record, which marked Sanders’ worst season since taking over prior to the 2023 season.

Sanders’ coaching record now stands at 16-21 after three years in charge. He is focused on improving the roster for the 2026 season and aims to return to the success he achieved in 2024. To accomplish this, he is utilizing recruiting efforts and the transfer portal.

The Buffaloes have signed a total of 42 players from the transfer portal this offseason. Additionally, they have 17 players who have either signed letters of intent for the 2026 class or have committed to the school. This group includes the Buffaloes’ newest commitment, wide receiver Jacob Swain.

Swain is a three-star prospect from Cypress High School in Melissa, Texas. He caught 53 passes for a total of 1,184 yards and scored 17 touchdowns, averaging over 22 yards per catch. He’s received offers from schools such as Louisville, UNLV, San Diego State, and USF. He is now part of what has become Sanders’ largest high school recruiting class since he arrived at Colorado.

Sanders’ third season at Colorado was a harsh reminder of how quickly momentum can swing in college football. After a promising campaign in 2024, the Buffaloes regressed sharply, placing added pressure on Sanders to recalibrate the program heading into 2026.

That reset has been aggressive. Colorado’s massive transfer portal haul signals Sanders’ urgency to rebuild depth and experience, while the growing high school class suggests a longer-term vision aimed at stabilizing the roster. Swain’s commitment fits that approach, adding a big-play receiver with proven production at the prep level.

For Sanders, the 2026 season looms as a pivotal one. With his largest recruiting class to date and one of the most active portal cycles in the country, expectations will rise quickly in Boulder. Whether this overhaul leads to a return to bowl contention or more growing pains will likely define the next phase of the Sanders era at Colorado.
