Colorado football coach responds to viral video of players being ‘too small’

Deion Sanders is entering his fourth season as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. Last year, after the departure of Travis Hunter and his son, Shedeur Sanders, Colorado dropped to 3-9. This season he’s got a new offensive coordinator after bringing in Brennan Marion from Sacramento State and they hoping to get the program back on track.
Unfortunately, the preseason has not been kind to Colorado. While they’re excited about the new players they’ve brought in, a video of position players running onto the field before the spring game in April went viral because everyone looked so small.

Earlier this week Colorado’s official X account uploaded a highlight of transfer Quentin Gibson making a nice move at practice, but again all anyone focused on was how small the team looked in the video.
Upon closer inspection of the roster, it was discovered that there are a number of players listed at 5-foot-9 or under. Compare that to preseason No. 1 Ohio State who currently lists 17 players under 6-feet tall. (Only 13 show up on ESPN.com) Or Big 12 power Texas Tech who only has two players listed at 5-foot-9 or under.

Colorado coach’s reaction to small claims
It’s not the kind of narrative you want to be dealing with heading into the season, but Colorado is rolling with the punches. In April they posted pictures of shrunken players. And on Wednesday Marion
“As the kids would say, pull up. We’re small, we’re this, we’re that. Whatever. At some point you gotta spot the ball and we’ll see.”
Fans will be able to see live on ESPN on Sept. 3 when Colorado begins their season at Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets beat the Buffaloes by a touchdown in the 2025 season opener. In case you were curious, Georgia Tech has four players listed at 5-foot-9. We’ll see if that makes a big difference in the game.
