Colorado‘s coaching staff has made its mission in the transfer portal clear with its early signings: to rebuild a broken defense.

The Buffaloes took a massive step toward completing that mission by landing former James Madison cornerback Justin Eaglin. The All-Sun Belt corner racked up five interceptions, 13 passes defended and 35 tackles after appearing in all 14 games for the Dukes in 2025. Fans might recognize Eaglin’s name for his interception, which he took back for a career-long 61 yards, against Oregon in the College Football Playoff opening round.

Eaglin was one of the first players to announce an offer from the Buffs when the transfer portal opened on Jan. 2. He comes to Boulder with one year of eligibility remaining.

Before entering the portal, Eaglin spent four years with the Dukes, breaking out in 2024 and playing a significant role in the team’s defense. His five interceptions in 2025 tied for the most in the Sun Belt Conference and are only one shy of Colorado’s team total from this season.

Eaglin will be tasked with leading a rebuilt secondary without star D.J. McKinney, as he is set to become only the second cornerback on the Buffs’ roster. He joins safety Naeten Mitchell as one of the two secondary pieces Colorado has brought in so far.
