Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are wrapping up a 40-plus player transfer portal class. However, they are still looking to add uncommitted 2026 recruits to bolster their previously 12-player class.
On Monday morning, running back Cam Newton committed to the Buffs despite holding offers from 20 other programs. Newton chose Colorado over Air Force, Army, Navy, Tulsa, Colgate, Columbia, Cornell and multiple other elite academic institutions. He clearly has it between the ears, which will be a plus for Sanders’ squad.
Newton is an unranked recruit according to 247Sports, but Colorado saw something it liked as he was offered, took an official visit to Boulder, and committed all in the span of six days.

During his high school career at Walnut Grove in Prosper, Texas, Newton racked up 5,022 yards on 673 carries and 82 rush touchdowns. He added 65 receptions for 757 yards and nine touchdowns.
Newton becomes the Buffs’ sixth scholarship running back for the 2026 season, joining Micah Welch, Richard Young, Damian Henderson II, Jaquail Smith and DeKalon Taylor.
