Colorado football continues to target productive Group of Five- and FCS-level players on the opening day of the portal.

Former Louisiana Tech defensive back Michael Richard is one of several portal entrants to receive an offer from the Buffs on the first day of the official portal window.

Richard had 39 tackles, five tackles for a loss, three interceptions and three passes broken up in 2025. According to his social media account, he holds offers from the Buffaloes and Michigan State. 247Sports ranks him as a three-star transfer portal prospect and the No. 63 safety overall.

He was named a 2023 freshman All-American and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Richard is the second defensive back Colorado offered Friday, signaling a complete rebuild needed at the position following the departure of top cornerback DJ McKinney. The Buffs and Deion Sanders also offered James Madison star cornerback Justin Eaglin. Both players would be two significant additions for a CU defense that needs an influx of talent.
