Colorado football is coming off a disaster of a season, going just 3-9 in 2025. Deion Sanders has worked heavily in the transfer portal in order to attempt to reshape the roster once again. Sanders was aggressive this offseason to be competitive this year.
Regardless, Sanders is just 16-21 at Colorado, with just one bowl game. This is leading to the question of job security around Sanders, according to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports.
“That shine in hiring one of the biggest sports celebrities in the industry took a hit last year as the Buffaloes finished 3-9. Sanders has battled serious health issues, spends much of his offseason outside of Boulder and won just three games in 2025 — the second losing season in his three years. The nine-win campaign in 2024, led by Heisman winner Travis Hunter, seems like a distant memory,” Dellenger wrote. “Sanders overturned the roster again with more than 50 new players. With a new AD on board, Fernando Lovo, the Buffs need to show marked improvement if Sanders plans to stick around long term. They kick off the season at Georgia Tech on Sept. 3 in a game that’ll tell us plenty.”

While Sanders is not in any immediate danger, with a $26-$28 million buyout, he could be with another bad season. Sanders was great at Jackson State, going 27-6 in three years and winning the SWAC twice. He brought with him his son, Sheduer Sanders, and future Heisman winner Travis Hunter to Colorado. They went 4-8 in their first year before going 9-4 with an Alamo Bowl loss in 2025. Still, they went 3-9 in 2025.
Colorado opens their season on the road against Georgia Tech. They also have games agaisnt Texas Tech, Utah, and Houston this year, which could lead to a disaster of a season for the Buffaloes.
