Colorado coach Deion Sanders is riding a wave after the Buffaloes edged the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 14-13 on the road in Week 1 of college football action, silencing the negative buzz around the program. The Buffaloes will play at home against the Weber State Wildcats in Week 2 as they try to continue their early-season momentum.
In a lighthearted moment before the game in Boulder, Coach Prime chided Colorado fans for not selling out Folsom Field for the Buffs’ game against the Wildcats.

In a clip posted on YouTube on Friday, Coach Prime urged the Colorado fans to sell out the game against the Wildcats.

“Everybody, I heard a vicious rumor and I think it’s a lie,” Sanders said. “You guys gotta tell me if this is the truth or not. I heard we’re a few thousand tickets short of selling out. I know that can’t be possible because I’ve been bragging to our coordinators, to our captains and leaders and the team about how radical this Buffs crowd is. And I want you to sell out ’cause if you don’t, I’m gonna end up buying the tickets to make sure that we have a sellout.
“So, I want you to sell out, okay? I can’t wait to see you tomorrow. We’re gonna put on a show for you tomorrow; I promise you that.”
After a disappointing 3-9 record last season, Sanders was on one of college football’s hottest seats this year. In four seasons at Colorado, Coach Prime has a 16-21 record and only one winning season, when the Buffs went 9-4 in 2024 and earned bowl eligibility in a traditional regular season for the first time since 2016.
After joining Colorado from Jackson State in 2023, Sanders established the Buffs as one of college football’s hottest tickets. Celebrities regularly flocked to Boulder to watch Colorado games and the team experienced a huge visibility boost on social media platforms.
In those early halcyon years, the Buffs regularly appeared in the top 10 of the most watched games on television. The program’s popularity declined in the following years, reaching a trough of two million viewers last year, down from 6.1 million viewers in 2023.
Despite the Buffs’ declining TV ratings, Colorado still sneaked into college football’s top 10 most-watched games in Week 1. Coach Prime’s Buffs drew 3.7 million viewers on ESPN, earning the No. 10 slot on the list.
After revamping his coaching staff and flipping his roster via the transfer portal, Coach Prime will attempt to re-establish the Buffs’ popular college football standing this year.
