Colorado lost a commitment from 2027 cornerback Dolph McDonald, recently leaving questions about the status of his brother, Xavier’s, commitment to the Buffaloes, which was expected to be finalized on national signing day. That is no longer the case as the elder McDonald announced he is signing with James Madison.
McDonald is a three-star recruit from Morton, Mississippi, rated as the No. 479 overall prospect and No. 67 wide receiver in the 2026 class. The brothers jointly committed to the Buffs in early December, after Xavier had initially committed to Brennan Marion’s Sacramento State program before the coach joined Deion Sanders’ coaching staff.
During his senior season at Morton High School, Xavier hauled in 28 receptions for 450 receiving yards. He is a speedy wide receiver who accumulated 3,787 total receiving yards on 200 catches alongside 41 touchdowns in his high school career.

McDonald’s commitment and subsequent signing with JMU did not seem to catch Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes off guard as the program landed another wide receiver, Jacob Swain, earlier this week to take his place in the 2026 class. The Buffs’ current class stands at 16 freshman recruits, with 13 having signed their national letter of intent.
