Colorado opened the new season with a stunning escape of Georgia Tech, 14-13, at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Thursday, with quarterback Julian Lewis finding Charlie Williams for a 20-yard touchdown with 42 seconds remaining in the nail-biting affair.
In the postgame interview, Sanders could not help but gloat when told they had 183 rushing yards.

“We rushed for a buck 83? My God. They rushed for 51? I thought we were small,” said Sanders, as quoted by BuffStampede’s Oliver Hayes.
Georgia Tech still had the chance to win, but Aidan Birr’s 45-yard attempt was blocked by Boo Carter.
Lewis went 14-of-27 for 124 yards and a touchdown, while Micah Welch had 13 carries for 58 yards and a touchdown.
Lewis, an 18-year-old freshman, had a rough start, but he stayed composed and came alive in their final drives.
The Buffaloes were labeled “small” by fans after a viral video from their practice showed lighter skill-position players running onto the field.
Sanders pushed back on the criticism by highlighting their size.
“They’re talking about the size of our team, which is hilarious. Sixteen linemen average 6-5, 310 pounds. Six tight ends average 6-5, 255 pounds. Interior defensive linemen average 6-3, 295 pounds. Defensive ends average 6-3, 245 pounds. Cornerbacks average 6-1, 185 pounds. I don’t think that’s small by any means,” said Sanders in August.
Pulling off the gutsy upset against Georgia Tech was the perfect way to start for Colorado, and it should only boost Lewis’ confidence moving forward.
The Buffaloes will host Weber State at Folsom Field on September 12.
