Colorado QB Julian Lewis Announces Personal News Amid College Football Season

The Colorado Buffaloes’ 2025 season has been a turbulent one. Following the departures of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to the NFL, the Buffaloes have struggled to replicate last year’s success. The offense, once dynamic, has been inconsistent, while the defense has failed to show up.

As a result, Colorado has fallen out of bowl contention, marking a disappointing regression for a program that had shown real progress under head coach Deion Sanders. The uneven campaign has also prompted major lineup adjustments, including a notable shift at quarterback.

Earlier this month, Deion Sanders named true freshman Julian Lewis as Colorado’s starting quarterback, replacing Kaidon Salter after a series of shaky performances. Lewis, one of the top recruits in his class, has quickly impressed coaches and teammates alike. Many consider him to be Colorado’s quarterback of the future, and Sanders has shown faith in the young signal-caller’s ability to anchor the Buffaloes’ offense.

Since taking over, Lewis has shown some flashes of the talent that made him a prized prospect. Through three games, he has completed 58.9 percent of his passes for 428 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. His best performance so far came in Week 11, where he threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns in Colorado’s loss to West Virginia.

His poise and quick release have earned comparisons to former Buffaloes standout [Shedeur] Sanders, whose leadership and impressive play last season left a lasting impact on the program.

On Wednesday, Lewis announced via Instagram that he has launched his own merchandise line. The freshman posted a short video displaying the apparel collection – featuring shirts, hoodies, and caps emblazoned with his logo – and directed fans to a link to place orders.

The move mirrors [Shedeur] Sanders’ own NIL ventures, continuing a trend of Buffaloes quarterbacks leveraging their spotlight.

Lewis appears poised to embrace both the pressure and opportunity that come with being Colorado’s new face. With two games remaining – a home game against Arizona State on Saturday and an away trip to Kansas State – the Buffaloes hope the freshman can give the program some hope to hold on to and perhaps lay the foundation for a stronger 2026 campaign.
