Colorado recruiting finding success with top tier decommitted players

The Colorado Buffaloes kept their Memorial Day recruiting run going by landing four 2027 prospects who decommitted from their respective major in-state powers, opting for Boulder instead.

The latest surge has pushed Deion Sanders' 2027 group into the Big 12's top five classes, and it says a lot about how Colorado is selling itself right now.

The group includes four-star wide receiver Jaiden Kelly-Murray, who backed off South Carolina, four-star offensive lineman Li'Marcus Jones, who decommitted from Ole Miss, four-star defensive back Gabe Jenkins, who left Penn State, and three-star linebacker/edge Ba'Roc Willis, who flipped from Alabama.

For Deion Sanders, these are statement recruiting wins. The moves show how Colorado is pursuing players discarded elsewhere and convincing them that Boulder is the place for them.

The class also stands out because of its geography, as Colorado now has nine commitments from nine different states. This gives the Buffs a national footprint that is rare for a program that still has to prove it can turn recruiting into wins on the field. Brennan Marion's offense is getting help from Kelly-Murray and Jones, while Chris Marve's side of the ball keeps adding speed and length with Jenkins and Willis.

The rankings also reflect progress, as Texas Tech is the only Big 12 program with more four-star commits. Colorado sits at No. 4 in the league with nine total commits and four four-stars. That is a major step forward from where the Buffs stood not long ago, and it shows Sanders is still landing the kind of recruits that can change a roster quickly.
