ATHENS — Prior to Saturday’s MEC clash with Frostburg State, Concord head coach Cody Edwards observed the Bobcats were the only opponent his team faced in 2025 that he felt the Mountain Lions were never in the ballgame.
This time around, not only was Concord in it — it was in it to win it.
Mountain Lions quarterback Devin Kargman had his second consecutive 300-yard-plus passing outing with a career-best four touchdowns as Concord outran Frostsburg State 41-31 at Callaghan Stadium.
The Mountain Lions (3-2, 1-2 MEC) had not beaten Frostburg State on the gridiron since 2022.
Former Princeton High School standout Dom Collins had a banner day in front of the appreciative home crowd, reeling in a career-best nine receptions for 152 yards, including two touchdown catches.
Sophomore receiver Ethan Jackson got in on the act, pulling in four receptions for 51 yards, including two touchdown grabs.
The Concord University football team racked up more than 430 yards of offense and forced four turnover on the day.
Senior running back Maurice Jones finished one yard shy of 100 yards on the ground. He recorded a career-high 24 carries.
Junior defensive back Ar’Terrian Godfrey led the Concord defense with eight tackles. Owens only had two tackles, both sacks, to go with an interception and a forced fumble. Junior linebacker Jonathan Williams had a first-half red zone interception to stall a Frostburg State scoring chance.
Concord led 24-18 at halftime and stayed in front until the Bobcats made a bid to flip the script in the fourth quarter.
Frostburg State (2-3, 1-2 MEC) scored 13 unanswered points to take its first lead of the day, 31-27, in the first 40 seconds of the fourth.
Down four points, the Mountain Lions put together back-to-back scoring drives to regain a 41-31 advantage. Junior running back Greg Burrell capped a nine-play, 75-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown to give Concord a 34-31 edge at the 10:22 mark.
Concord’s defense forced a three-and-out, and the offense followed with an 11-play, 63-yard touchdown drive that drained nearly five minutes of the clock. The scoring play was a 4th-and-1 toss by Kargman to Jackson from 12 yards out.
The Concord defense produced turnovers on consecutive Frostburg drives to seal the win.
Junior defensive back Bradly Harris stepped in front of a pass at the 26-yard line.
On the following Bobcats possession, redshirt freshman defensive end Quay McCauley came up with a strip sack that was recovered by sophomore defensive back Marley Ashley at the Concord 20-yard line.
Frostburg State finished the game with 219 penalty yards on 18 accepted infractions.
Concord travels to West Virginia State Saturday, Oct 10.
