In Shane Beamer’s five seasons leading South Carolina football, his teams have a notable history of big wins against ranked teams in November. In 2022, the Gamecocks beat No. 5 Tennessee and No. 8 Clemson in November. Last season, they took down No. 10 Texas A&M, No. 23 Missouri and No. 12 Clemson.
Saturday on the road against Texas A&M, it looked like another big-time South Carolina upset in the making. Well, at least in the first half.

The Gamecocks overpowered the Aggies in the first half, and their defense left Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed looking flustered, throwing two interceptions in the first 30 minutes. The Aggies entered halftime down, 30-3. Their first loss of the season looked beyond probable and their chances of making the SEC championship game were in question.
Plus, history was on South Carolina’s side in a big way. As the ESPN broadcast noted, since 2004, SEC teams were 0-286 when losing by at least 27 points in conference play.
Now, that record is 1-286 after Texas A&M powered through in the second half, keeping South Carolina scoreless and ultimately winning, 31-30.

Congrats to Beamer for leading a historic collapse when a major upset seemed so reasonable. Instead of dealing Texas A&M its first loss of the 2025 season, the Gamecocks allowed the Aggies to earn the victory, stay undefeated and pull off the biggest comeback in program history.
The contrast for both teams between their first- and second-half performances couldn’t have been more blatant. In the first half, South Carolina out-gained Texas A&M, 312 yards to 132. On the ground, the Gamecocks had 108 rushing yards in the first half, while the Aggies had -9. By the end of the game, Texas A&M had 503 total yards to South Carolina’s 388, and Reed went 22-for-39 for 439 yards and three passing touchdowns.
Naturally, college football fans had plenty of thoughts on Beamer and South Carolina’s unbelievable collapse — even if Texas A&M is one of the best teams in the country.

Shane Beamer: ok guys we just played a perfect half against one of the best teams in the country. All we have to do is something, literally anything in the 2nd half and it’s over

Yeah, South Carolina fans have every right to be furious with Beamer.
