Could Arizona State football QB Sam Leavitt transfer to Big 12 school?

Arizona State quarterback has been linked with several schools since reports surfaced that he would enter the transfer portal, including Big Ten schools Penn State and Indiana, and LSU and Ole Miss from the SEC.

While it will likely be hard for ASU fans to stomach Leavitt playing for any other team next season, they would probably get by with seeing the dual threat QB on the Nittany Lions, Hoosiers, Tigers or Rebels (or even the Miami Hurricanes, Florida State Seminoles or some other team back East that has been connected to the dynamic quarterback).

But another possible transfer destination for Leavitt could make Sun Devil fans sick.

What if the Arizona State QB transfers to Big 12 school Texas Tech (or any other Big 12 school, for that matter)?

Several recent lists of potential landing spots for Leavitt include the Red Raiders.

Could Sam Leavitt transfer to Texas Tech?

Sports Illustrated included Texas Tech among the Top 5 landing spots for Leavitt in the transfer portal.

Joe Cox wrote: “If you can’t beat the Big 12 champ, maybe join them? Behren Morton is a senior and the Red Raider defense should make being QB1 an easy task. Tech’s outstanding portal performance a year ago shows they could make this work and potentially tighten their deadlock on the Big 12.”

Interestingly, Leavitt did beat the Big 12 champ this season, helping ASU get a 26-22 win over the Red Raiders on Oct. 18, Texas Tech’s lone loss so far this season.

But we get it. Leavitt might be a really good fit with Texas Tech.

Sports Illustrated isn’t the only site to think so. The Athletic, Sportsnaut, and others include the Red Raiders as among the potential landing spots for the Arizona State quarterback.

Could Sam Leavitt transfer to Colorado or another Big 12 team?

Another site, College Football Network, wrote about Leavitt being a possibility to transfer to Colorado, which would only make sense if Leavitt was only looking for more NIL compensation and didn’t care about the quality of the football team.

While some Big 12 programs have entrenched starters returning, several other Big 12 teams would likely love to hand the reins of their offense over to Leavitt in 2026, but would they be a step up for Leavitt from Arizona State?

Where will Sam Leavitt play college football in 2026?

The last time ASU had a star QB leave, Jayden Daniels went to LSU, where he won the Heisman Trophy. ASU fans eventually got over it.

It’s going to be very difficult for Sun Devil fans to get over Sam Leavitt leaving Arizona State (even if he goes to LSU like Daniels), and we are sure some are holding out hope he returns to Tempe, but it’s going to be especially rough if the QB bolts the ASU football team for a Big 12 school.

The further East Leavitt lands in the transfer portal, the better (just not in Morgantown, West Virginia, or Orlando, Florida, or any other Big 12 city, please).

Where do you think Sam Leavitt will end up playing next season?
