One of Washington’s top remaining targets in the 2027 class has set a commitment date.

In-state offensive lineman Gecova Doyal, out of Puyallup High School, a composite four-star recruit ranked the No. 357 overall player and No. 4 player in Washington, will choose between Oregon, Utah, UCLA, and the Huskies on July 1.

Doyal visited Montlake on June 19 as part of Washington’s final official visit weekend, which was packed with offensive linemen. 2027 commit Reis Russell, the only offensive lineman currently in the Huskies’ class, spent the weekend recruiting Doyal, four-star interior lineman DaJohn Yarborough, and three-star tackle Tye Kennedy, only days after Washington hosted four-star tackle Rashaun Lavata’i for a midweek visit.

Lavata’i has since committed to Washington State, where he’s expected to garner playing time as a true freshman. Kennedy, the son of Huskies legend Lincoln Kennedy, received a crystal ball to the Huskies from both Rivals and 247Sports at the conclusion of the weekend and will also announce his commitment on July 1.

That has left Doyal and Yarborough as crucial pieces of the class – both are expected to move to guard at the college level, and Washington currently has a center (Russell) and appears to be in good position for a tackle (Kennedy). Adding a guard to fill out the class would effectively cap the Huskies’ efforts on the line, although head coach Jedd Fisch and offensive line coach Michael Switzer will almost certainly not complain about landing both.

While Greg Biggins and Brandon Huffman of Rivals have projected Doyal to the Huskies, Oregon has long been a favorite in the Puyallup native’s recruitment. UCLA has also made a strong push under new head coach Bob Chesney and may have put itself in the running. However, earning the last official visit is nothing to sneeze at, and Washington has done well selling the ability to stay home to in-state recruits under Fisch.

Clarity will soon come, but Doyal’s recruitment feels as though it will come right down to the wire.
